Returning to her hometown and a humdrum life in the Northwood's of Wisconsin, Jordan Nimsby feels the recent pain of lost love and dead career dreams. Fortunately, she's never been one to let life kick her when she's down, so when an unmanned drone sends a bomb into the strip mall in town, she trades misery for a mystery investigation. Barista-by-day and private-investigator-by-night, Jordy tags along with her old middle school BFF Samantha Orwitz, who now works as a detective for Eagle River's Police Force, until Sergeant Jones decides to personally invite Jordy onto their team. The two women follow the leads, and a series of bombings, around the Northwood's, trailing a herd of quirky suspects. They connect the dots of the mystery, picking up clues from a few scattered pieces of evidence, leading them to a mysterious name, the Vietnam War and an anti-government blogger with a sordid past. As if the case weren't tough enough, Jordy's old crush from high school, Keith Leparth, has popped back into the picture, offering a welcome distraction from work. Keith remains on Jordy's mind as she trails the evidence from a political convention in a popular tourist destination to a creepy isolated cabin. Finally reaching a showdown with the bomber, Jordan and Samantha need to unveil the perpetrator's motive without getting blown to bits themselves.
